NASSAU, THE BAHAMAS – Team Bahamas put the work on Jamaica last night in game one of the FIBA World Cup Americas Qualifiers, routing them 123-74 in front of an adoring home crowd.

The team, was full of NBA and overseas pros but VJ Edgecombe was far and away the best player on the court.

The 2nd year NBA shooting guard dropped 26 points on 10 of 15 shooting in only 27 minutes, and he rounded it out with 8 rebounds and 3 assists.

He started off the game dunking all over Jamaica with some high-flying aerial displays before showing what NBA range looked like in the 2nd and third quarters making 4 of his 5 three-pointers.

The game was full of good guard play. Domnick bridgewater, who plays in France, had 23 points and assists. Franco Miller added 18, and NBA veteran Buddy Hield added 15 points, 6 rebounds, and 5 assists.

Andrew Thelwell led Jamaica with 24 points.

Major League Baseball

In the “A”, Coach Antoan Richardson of the Atlanta Braves and his team got the better of his former squad. They took down the New York Mets 5-3.

Big Matt Olson hit his 21st and 22nd home runs of the season. Ozzie Albies and Michael Harris also went yard in the win.

Rough night at the plate for Jazz Chisholm. He went 0-4. His New York Yankees beat the Minnesota Twins 5-2 anyway.

And BJ Murray continues to stand out as one of the best hitters in all of the minors. He went 3-4 with a home run, a triple, and 2 rbi to help his triple-a Iowa Cubs log a 5-4 win over the Toledo Mudhens.

He’s hitting .337, the second highest average in triple-a with an otherworldly 999 ops.
