NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Residents speaking out after two non-Bahamians were honored at the country’s 50th independence event on Clifford Park.

It was these presentations on the eve of the country’s 50th independence that has many Bahamians questioned whether it was the appropriate place and time to honor President of Rwanda Paul Kagame and United States Congresswoman Maxine Waters.

The two were awarded the Order of Excellence by the advisory committee of the National Honors Society based on the recommendation of Prime Minister Philip Davis.

It’s a decision Davis later defended despite the fact that some Bahamian acts were scratched from the program while Kagame and waters were allowed to speak.

Resident Kenya Mckenzie says she believes Bahamians deserved an explanation.
