NASSAU, BAHAMAS – The dire situation in Haiti among the issues being discussed at this week’s CARICOM meetings.

Bahamian troops could soon find themselves stationed in Haiti, according to Minister of Foreign Affairs, Fred Mitchell. While heads of government from various Caribbean nations meet for the 44th Heads of Government meeting of CARICOM, Mitchell says they will focus on which policies will be in place for Haiti.

Mitchell says The Bahamas and Jamaica have already committed to sending manpower to the struggling nation.

At the opening press conference for CARICOM earlier this week, Prime Minister Philip Davis said there is no fear of returning to Haiti.

Former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Darren Henfield adding that he believes The Bahamas has the right approach.
