The Bahamas Falls to Cuba

Cuba Beat The Bahamas 9-3 at Caribbean Cup

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – The Bahamas National Baseball team fell to Cuba 9-3 on Wednesday night in the nightcap of the Caribbean Baseball Cup at the newly opened Andre Rodgers National Baseball Stadium. 

Cuban pitching shut down Bahamian hitting, allowing only 6 hits all game. Cuban Starter Leodan Reyes Lugo got the win for Cuba, going  6 innings, giving up 4 hits and no earned runs while striking out 7.

Yunier Castilla Jerez finished the final 3 innings to earn the save, giving up the only 3 runs that The Bahamas would score.

Bahamian starting pitcher Giovante Tomlins had a rough out, giving up 6 runs on only 5 hits to the Cuban contingent despite only walking 1 hitter in 4 and 1/3rd innings before getting the hook. His relievers didn’t fare much better as they would give up 4 more runs. 

Designated hitter Dante Stuart was a bright spot for The Bahamas, going 2 for 4 with 2 singles. Ellison Hanna added a pinch-hit home run. Speedy outfielder Kristin Munroe stole two bases. 

First baseman Guillermo Aviles Difurno went 2-3 with an RBI for the Cubans with a double and a single, while DH Yoelkis Guibert went 2-4 with an RBI. 

The loss puts the Bahamian team at 1-2 in the tournament while the Cubans are 2-1.

The Bahamas plays Puerto Rico tonight at the Andre Rodgers National Baseball Stadium.
