“The Industry Is Based On Supply And Demand”

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – The government says it understands concerns over the recent route cancellations by some major airlines.

Given the fanfare over the expanded routes earlier this year to destinations in the US, UK, Canada, and France, it naturally raises concern. The decision to cancel American Airlines service between Grand Bahama and Miami, and Bahamasair’s Nassau into Montego Bay, Jamaica, contributed to the concern.

Aviation Director Dr. Kenneth Romer contends there is a reasonable explanation, in particular with Bahamasair.

Dr. Romer believes the decision for airlines to collaborate is more of a solution, adding that what matters in the end is the passenger arrivals.

“The route never started as planned in the first quarter,” Dr. Romer explained. “But Virgin Airlines just announced new routes, and Bahamasair flies consistently to other destinations.”

He remains optimistic about the future.

“The airline industry is cyclical, and while there are challenges now, I believe we will see improvement as travel picks up,” Dr. Romer stated.
