NASSAU, BAHAMAS – The Rev. Fr. Whitfield Hutcheson, Dean and Rector of St. Margaret’s Anglican Church, spoke about the importance of the Easter season in Christianity. According to Fr. Hutcheson, Easter is at the heart of Christian faith.

“Without Easter, there is no Christianity. Scripture says if Christ be not raised, our faith is a waste of time. It would merely be a public relations exercise.”

He emphasized that while the season begins with Palm Sunday, marking Jesus’ triumphant entry into Jerusalem, the journey starts long before that. The 40 days of Lent serve as preparation for the Holy Week, leading up to Palm Sunday and eventually the Lord’s Passion.

“The 40 days of Lent preparation were to prepare us for the journey through holy week. 40 days of hopefully sober reflection, self-examination, and then we came to Palm Sunday, when we entered now into what is called the Lord’s Passion.”

On Good Friday, Christians reflect on Jesus’ suffering and death, while Resurrection Sunday is celebrated as the greatest day in Christianity when Christ was raised from the dead.

“He died on Good Friday. Suffered, bled, and died on a good Friday, and we are told that by his stripes, the blood and the water, sinners can still plunge in the flood and lose all their guilty stains. And the resurrection Sunday, the greatest day in Christianity that Christ is raised from the dead.”

Father Hutcheson encouraged believers to slow down and reflect on Christ’s sacrifice.

“Yeah, we could have our good times and all that but you have to have some time where you are devoted for worshiping him and saying to him thank you for what you saw fit. One songwriter said while he was going through the ugliness of the cross, you and me were on his mind.”
