NASSAU, BAHAMAS – April 17th, 2025 this year is Maundy Thursday which is also known as what many Christians here at home call the Last Supper.

The Thursday before easter. It’s believed to be the day Jesus shared his final meal with his disciples.

Across the Bahamas, many churches are holding special services today, some are even carrying out the traditional washing of feet, a symbol of humility and service, just as Jesus did.

For many Bahamians while Easter weekend is about more than just church, it’s easter baskets for the kids, the beach.  Hot cross buns, fried fish… And of course, a break from work.

Religious leaders often remind us, not to lose sight of what this season truly means.

Maundy Thursday is followed by Good Friday, the day Jesus was crucified. For believers, it’s a time of mourning, but also a reminder of the sacrifice they say was made for all of humanity.

Then comes resurrection Sunday, or Easter Sunday, it’s the moment of joy.

When Christians believe Jesus rose from the dead.

Church leaders say this story of death and resurrection is more than just history…it’s a reminder that no matter how dark life may get, there is always hope.
