NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Families around the world will celebrate Father’s Day on Sunday – a time to recognize the important role of fathers in the lives of their families. However, what exactly does that entail?

Pastor Cleveland Wells, who has two daughters of his own, tells us the most important role a father must play, is a spiritual one.

“He must be able to not only say what is expected of the children, and it must be modeled, lived so that the children would be able to read that life. The majority of our children they read the life above that of the Bible, and so if you live in, they will follow suit.”

He says this in addition to all of the physical, financial, and other disciplinary responsibilities a father may have.

Also, the reality is that many grow up without fathers, often getting themselves into trouble, even turning to a life of crime.

“A lot of persons use a crutch by saying because daddy wasn’t there. That’s how come I am who I am. Well a lot of person should not have made it because of the circumstances that’s surrounded them at that given time.”

Wells is active in his community, and mentors boys at Queens College.

You may also remember him as the spiritual father for Adriel Moxey, the 12-year-old girl who was tragically murdered in 2024 – a case that sent shockwaves across the nation

He says looking out for those in the community is something many men have to carry.

“There are several giant men that stepped in and helped Cleveland, and so we need to also build those programs and remain consistent in those programs to help the young men and young women of our nation.”
