NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Education Minister Glenys Hanna-Martin says the time has come to discuss corporal punishment in schools.

Her comments follow an incident of alleged misconduct at a primary school in Bimini.

On Monday, National Security Minister Wayne Munroe confirmed a Bimini police officer was transferred after being accused of beating several primary school students.

Hanna Martin says there is an administrators’ manual that speaks specifically to how corporal punishment is administered.

She says the situation involving the primary school students is beyond unfortunate.
