NASSAU, BAHAMAS – On this day in Bahamian history, on the 25th April 1765 – The British ship, Medway Planter, was wrecked on a reef of rocks near off Cat Island, Bahama Islands.
The ship was travelling from Jamaica to London, Great Britain. The ship’s captain, Captain Lislie, and her crew managed to reach New Providence.

Fast forward to 2013 when a top US embassy was on the defense over a cabinet ministers criticism of the United States government.

Then Minister of State for National Security Keith Bell accused the US government of passing challenges on to The Bahamas by deporting hundreds of ex-convicts to this country after they’ve served time for offenses like manslaughter armed robbery and rape.

US officials called this a common practice adding that it can’t be done without the Bahamian government’s approval.

John Lowell Armstrong was U.S. Chargee d’affaires at the time.

And finally, in 2022, was the ground breaking of the now bankrupt FTX Digital Markets headquarters. Sam Bankman-Fried at the time saying The Bahamas was the right fit with its strong regulatory framework.
