THE BAHAMAS – In 2007, Immigration Minister Shane Gibson resigned after photos emerged showing him with Anna Nicole Smith.

Gibson, who oversaw citizenship applications, was accused of fast-tracking Smith’s residency despite her not meeting the requirements. He denied any wrongdoing.


Then in 2016, Ormond Leon was sentenced to over 40 years in prison for murder.

Captured after a two-week manhunt, he was arrested at a home in Bushland off Fire Trail Road, having previously escaped from a police bus.


In 2020, The Bahamas was removed from the EU’s list of noncooperative tax jurisdictions after implementing reforms in tax governance and cooperation.


And in 2022, the 44th CARICOM meeting concluded after three days of high-level talks on food security, economic issues, climate change, and the crisis in Haiti.

Prime Minister Philip Davis chaired the meeting.
