NASSAU, BAHAMAS – On this day in Bahamian history, the first Bahamas Natural History Conference was held at the College of The Bahamas in Nassau on March 5-8, 2013.

Organized by the Bahamas National Trust, the theme for the conference was: “Highlighting the Importance of Research, Conservation, and Environmental Stewardship”

The forum attracted, researchers, educators, students and naturalists from The Bahamas and abroad.


On March 8, 1996, Parliament implemented the Local Government Act establishing the parameters for Local Government in The Commonwealth of The Bahamas.

Local government was implemented for all of the islands except for New Providence where the central government administers the island’s affairs.
