NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Young people who age out of the Ranfurly Home for Children are getting a head start, through the expansion of the transitional home and foundation for the future.

Mervline Antenor is a resident of phase 1 of the transitional home, who says she was unsure of where she would go once she became an adult. Through the transitional home she has learned responsibility, including how to pay bills – a step she says will prepare her for when she goes out into the “real world”.

Gowon Bowe, treasurer, says times have changed.

“It is far more challenging for our young adults… to progress into… further education, their initial jobs and now taking part in society,” Bowe says.

The Ranfurly Homes for Children has had multiple donors who have contributed to the transitional home, but he says providing the foundation for the future is a costly endeavor.
