NASSAU, BAHAMAS – The decision to raise bus fares was green-lit by Cabinet and aims to address mounting financial pressures within the transport sector.

Transport minister JoBeth Coleby-Davis, addressing bus drivers directly saying the plan is to implement the increase by ay 1st.

While she admits the increase falls short of what the drivers wanted, she insists it’s a start.

The last increase was sixteen years ago under the then-Christie Administration.

The 25-cent increase will not be straight across the board as it will only impact adult passengers. Their fare will now be $1.50.

Fares for seniors and school students will remain the same.

But how do the bus drivers feel about this?

Along with the announcement of the increase, other changes are coming, like extended bus routes and hours as well as an app that allows passengers to prepay.

It’s something drivers aren’t completely sold on.
