Trump Arrives in China for High-Stakes Meeting With Xi Jinping

CHINA – U.S. President Donald Trump was greeted with pomp and pageantry on Wednesday, ahead of a high-stakes meeting with his Chinese counterpart, Xi Jinping.

During his two-day visit, the global superpowers are expected to discuss tariffs, competition over tech, the Iran war, and the U.S.’s relationship with Taiwan.

Trump returns to a more assertive China since his last visit in 2017, as he faces growing scrutiny of his military campaign in the Middle East.

Trump was greeted by Chinese Vice President Han Zheng, one of China’s top leaders.

The move is being read as a show of respect from Beijing, after a lower-level leader received Trump on his last visit.
