NEW YORK, USA – The first witness in Donald Trump’s criminal hush money trial testified in a New York courtroom about a confidential agreement to boost Trump’s 2016 campaign.

Former National Enquirer publisher David Pecker told the court they would publish favorable stories and silence damaging ones.

Prosecutors allege this helped Trump deceive voters by concealing alleged affairs.

Trump has pleaded not guilty, also denying encounters with Stormy Daniels.

Pecker’s testimony follows a hearing on Trump’s alleged violation of a gag order. The judge, unmoved by defense arguments, is still considering a $10,000 fine. Trump claims the order infringes on his free speech.
