UNITED STATES – The United States announced more than $340 million in funding for Caribbean and Central American initiatives focused on digital connectivity, healthcare and regional security.
The funding was announced during the U.S.-Caribbean dialogue which brought together high-level delegations from 15 Caribbean countries and the Dominican Republic.
The largest allocation is $175.8 million for the Caribbean and Central America undersea cables program, which aims to expand high-speed undersea cable connectivity and strengthen the resilience of digital connections across the region.
The U.S. also intends to provide $61.5 million through the Americas strategic partnership for independent regional healthcare excellence, working with congress to help Caribbean governments develop self-sufficient healthcare workforces.
The announcements formed part of broader discussions on energy security, economic growth, disaster response, health cooperation and efforts to disrupt illicit narcotics and firearms trafficking.
