NASSAU, BAHAMAS – An American man who accidentally brought a licensed gun into the country has avoided spending 12 months in prison by paying a $15,000 fine.

Sixty-one-year-old Jeffrey Garman was arrested at the airport in Bimini as he was about to leave the island on July 9.

A security screener alerted police after finding a loaded pistol in his bag.

The businessman is authorized to have the gun in the United States.

Garman took a plea deal in the case and pleaded guilty before Acting Chief Magistrate Roberto Reckley.

He was fined $10,000 for the gun and $5,000 for eight rounds of ammunition.
