NASSAU, BAHAMAS – The Biden administration is releasing 1 million barrels of gasoline from the northeast reserve to lower summer gas prices. This reserve, established after superstorm sandy, is located in New Jersey and Maine.

The gasoline will be sold in 100,000-barrel increments through a competitive bidding process, ensuring it reaches retailers before the July 4th holiday. Gas prices currently average $3.60 per gallon nationwide.

Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm says this move aims to reduce costs for American families as the summer driving season begins.

This release follows a congressional mandate to sell off and close the 10-year-old reserve. The administration says it hopes this will provide relief for drivers and help control inflation.
