UNITED STATES – The U.S. measles outbreak has reached 800 cases across 24 states, nearly triple last year’s total, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

As of Tuesday, the CDC reported that most infections are in unvaccinated individuals, and the virus has already claimed two lives.

Health officials are warning that the U.S. could lose its measles elimination status if the spread continues.

The CDC is urging Americans to get vaccinated.
