NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Vice President Kamala Harris pledging over $100 million of support for the Caribbean. Over $50 million of that set to go towards Haiti.

During bilateral talks with leaders from across the region, United States Vice President Kamala Harris made a $100 million dollar pledged to the Caribbean $50 million of that set aside for Haiti, now facing ongoing economic and political instability.

But, more than the ongoing humanitarian crises in Haiti it’s expected that Harris who is co-hosting the meeting with Bahamian Prime Minister and CARICOM Chair Philip Davis will also tackle a major regional concern climate change.

To that end Harris announced an additional $15 million investment for emergency response efforts.

We also learned from the VP the us is looking to lead a diplomatic campaign with the world bank for multilateral development bank reform.

Today’s meeting follows a commitment made at the summit of Americas meeting in Los Angeles last year, making her the first highest-ranking us official to visit The Bahamas since its independence in 1973.

And despite notable contributions she admits there’s still much more work to be done.
