DOMINICAN REPUBLIC – A person from the Dominican Republic died in a U.S. coast guard operation in the Caribbean, targeting a boat smuggling $11 million worth of cocaine.

The coast guard confirmed the news saying warning shots were fired during the January 1 incident, resulting in an injured crew member.

Despite receiving first aid and evacuation to the Dominican Republic, the individual succumbed to injuries.

The coast guard, emphasizing the rarity of fatal shootings, is conducting an investigation. Two other suspects were arrested, and 848 pounds of cocaine were seized.
