U.S.A. – At the end of August, Sebastian Walcott was the fourth ranked prospect in the minor leagues.

But since the calendar flipped to September – he’s making the case for why he should be number one. In fact, if he leads the roughriders to the playoffs – he has to be. 

Walcott’s play throughout the month have not only kept his Frisco Roughriders’ postseason hopes alive in the aa Texas League but he was also named to an Arizona Fall League roster.

His latest late game heroics – a walkoff single to give Frisco a 4-3 win over North West Arkansas Tuesday night to open the final regular season series of the year.

In the previous game, Walcott led his team to a 5–1 victory over the midland rockhounds. 

He finished 2-4 with three RBIs.

In September the 19-year-old shortstop is on a seven-game hitting streak, batting .393 with a 1.056 ops,  with a triple, home run, seven RBIs, three steals, and three multi hit games.

The Roughriders improved to 69–62 – and paired with an Amarillo loss, Frisco’s elimination number is one with five games remaining in the second half.

Walcott and other Rangers’ prospects will join the surprise Saguaros in the fall league October 6 – November 15.

The league serves as a showcase for top prospects to gain additional experience against high-level competition.

WNBA

Jonquel Jones has 34 double doubles in a New York Liberty uniform – the team has won every single game. 

In the penultimate game of the regular season, Jones led the Liberty to a 75-66 win over the Washington Mystics Tuesday night at the Barclays Center.

She finished with 12 points, 11 rebounds, and 3 assists.

New York has clinched the no.5 seed in the wnba playoffs 

They will take a 26-17 record into the regular season finale when they take on the Chicago Sky – Thursday, September 11.

The WNBA playoffs get underway September 14.

Minor League Baseball

Ian Lewis production at the plate continues in the postseason.

Lewis and the Beloit Sky Carp opened their midwest league playoff series with a dominant 7-1 win over the Cedar Rapids kernels Tuesday night at abc supply stadium. 

After the Kernels tied the game at 1-1 in the fifth, the Sky Carp responded immediately and took control with a four-run sixth inning, which included Lewis’ rbi single.

The Sky Carp can clinch a spot in the league finals with a win in game two Thursday night in Cedar Rapids.
