Walcott’s Hot Streak Continues With Another Home Run

UNITED STATES – Sebastian Walcott is on an absolute tear, and the Texas Rangers’ top prospect is saving some of his best power for the end of the season.

Walcott has hit five home runs in his last seven games, including Sunday’s leadoff solo shot as the Frisco RoughRiders beat Amarillo 3–2.

The home run came in the bottom of the first, a drive to left-center field that cut Amarillo’s early lead to 2–1.

It was Walcott’s ninth home run of the season and eighth since joining Double-A Frisco, and his third homer of the series. He had already homered in four straight games from August 30 through September 2.

For the season, the 20-year-old Rangers top prospect is now hitting .318 with eight home runs, 18 RBIs, nine stolen bases and a 1.010 OPS, along with 42 runs scored and a .404 on-base percentage.

And with Frisco heading into the final series of the regular season, Walcott is clearly heating up at exactly the right time.

Minor League Baseball

Another Bahamian baseball star is making noise at the Triple-A level.

Kristian Robinson is on a power surge for the Reno Aces, homering in back-to-back games on September 4 and 5.

On Friday, Robinson crushed a 2–1 pitch deep to left-center for a leadoff home run, helping Reno to an 8–5 win over Sugar Land.

Then on Saturday, he took the very first pitch of the game out to left-center for another leadoff blast, giving Reno back-to-back leadoff homers.

Those homers were his 13th and 14th of the season, and the second one moved Robinson into the PCL lead for leadoff home runs.

He’s now hitting .274 with 14 home runs, 54 RBIs and 22 stolen bases, continuing to show that power-speed combination at the highest level of the minors.

Independent League Baseball

Chavez Young and the Québec Capitales begin their quest for another Frontier League championship this week.

Québec, the reigning four-time league champions, enter the postseason after finishing with a 69–33 record, the best mark in the Atlantic Conference.

Their first test is the New York Boulders, who qualified as a wild card.

The best-of-three series opens Wednesday at Skylands Stadium, with the Capitales returning home for Game Two on Friday and Game Three, if necessary, on Saturday.

And Young will be one of the key pieces in Québec’s lineup.

The Bahamian outfielder was named a Frontier League All-Star this season and has now also been selected to the All-Frontier League Team.

Now, Young and the Capitales begin the chase for a fifth straight Frontier League title.
