UNITED STATES – Walgreens Boots Alliance announced plans to close 1,200 stores over the next 3 years, with 500 closures scheduled for next year.

The move comes as the company faces challenges from low drug reimbursement rates and slower consumer spending.

CEO Tim Wentworth described the closures as part of a broader turnaround strategy, which includes a $1 billion cost-cutting program.

Despite these challenges, Walgreens beat fourth-quarter profit estimates and met 2025 earnings expectations, leading to a 10% rise in its stock.
