NASSAU, BAHAMAS – It’s that time of year again. Dozens of enumerators are back in the communities collecting data for the newest Labour Force Survey.

The Labour Force Survey, which is spearheaded by The Bahamas National Statistical Institute, is the only official source for unemployment statistics in the country.

This time around, they’re adding a new category says BNSI Assistant Director Cypreanna Winters, and it has to do with children on the job.

The results of the last Labour Force Survey were released in may when it was revealed the unemployment rate stands at 8.8%.

The last time a lower unemployment was recorded was in 2007.

Now they say the household-based sample survey will produce quarterly labour force estimates adding the data will be collected during the first two weeks in each month beginning august 2023.
