Whales Die In New Zealand Strandings

NEW ZEALAND – 477 pilot whales died after stranding themselves on two remote beaches in New Zealand; none could be re-floated and died naturally or were euthanized.

Witnesses called it a “heartbreaking loss” , the first beaching happening on the Chatham Islands east of New Zealand mainland.

Just Friday the Department of Conservation reported 232 whales stranded on another beach at Waihere Bay.

Two weeks earlier 200 pilot whales died on a remote beach in Tasmania, Australia.
