NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Over the weekend Our News featured a story with a certified child sexual abuse prevention advocate, who gave tips on how you can talk to your child about bodily autonomy. Now she’s sharing her tips should the day come when your child comes to you saying they’ve been sexually abused.

Cindy Godet, a rape crisis advocate, and a certified child sexual abuse prevention advocate says parent’s tone and response when children open up to them about abuse is vital for getting your child to open up.

Godet says we have a cultural issue in how we respond, especially when the abuser is one of the 8 in 10 where the perpetrator was known to the child.

She says she feels covering up for the abuser is worse.
