GRAND BAHAMA, BAHAMAS – Some good news for the community of East Grand Bahama as work is expected to begin sometime next year on the main seawall in High Rock.

During Hurricane Dorian that seawall was severely damaged.

In this report our Italia Hall speaks with the Deputy Director in the Ministry of Works who gives more details on the project.

If you pass the seawall in the High Rock community today you’ll see the destruction left by Hurricane Dorian three years ago. Deputy Director in the Ministry of Works Robert Mouzas says a geotechnical study is now being done.

And as for when the work will begin he says they are in the process of applying for budget funding.

The deputy director says the ministry is aware that more seawalls are needed across the country but there are a lot of costs associated with construction.

He says the Inter-American Development Bank is setting up a coastal protection unit in the ministry that will assist with funding.
