NASSAU, BAHAMAS – More than 500,000 Haitian nationals are looking to get into the United States of America the right way, through a sponsorship residence program. The Defence Force Commodore revealed the figures as he explained a drop in interceptions.

The applications are through a sponsorship residency program from the US government.

King gave the update as he explained the reasons behind a decrease in migrant apprehensions.

King also says if anyone from those countries attempt to enter illegally they will no longer be able to enter the U.S. through that program.

King says there’ve also seen Haitian migrants moving towards Mexico.

As for Cuba, King says over three hundred and eighty thousand applications were made.

He explains they’ve seen a drop in vessels coming through Bahamian waters.

King also revealing some 643 Cubans were returned to The Bahamas who were detained in the area of Cay Sal Bank.
