NASSAU, BAHAMAS – A 63-year-old American tourist lost his freedom for one day after he failed to declare that he was traveling with more than $10,000.

David Kim was arrested at the Lynden Pindling International Airport on September 8, after customs and border patrol officers discovered that he was carrying $12,042 back to Virginia.

During a search of his luggage, police also found a small amount of marijuana stuffed in one of Kim’s shoes.

Kim pleaded guilty to drug possession and failing to declare at his arraignment before Assistant Chief Magistrate Shaka Serville.

The magistrate ordered the money forfeited.

He did not impose a sentence for the drug charge since Kim had spent a day in custody.
