Union Disappointed With “Unjust Termination”

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Tertiary educators gathering outside the Bahamas Technical and Vocational Institute to protest what they call an unjust termination of one of their own.

Daniel Thompson, Union of Tertiary Educators president, had an earful for officials from the Bahamas General Workers Union and BTVI.

Thompson along with staff of BTVI standing outside the school’s gates protesting what they call an unjust termination of one of their members. Thompson expressed disappointment in what he called the lack of effort by the union to defend its members.

Members of the group say they believe the termination comes as a result of a protest held outside of the Office of the Prime Minister two weeks ago by members of the union who did not agree with the signing of an agreement between BTVI and the union.

Ernesto Williams, UTEB Assistant Secretary, says the termination violates the constitutional rights of Bahamians.

Thompson is expressing hope that government will step in to deal with the issue, while the terminated worker is currently seeking legal action in hopes of resolving the matter.
