GRENADA – The growing climate crisis is unifying regional leaders in new ways as they continue to take the fight to the global stage.

CARICOM Chairman Dickon Mitchell points to the issue of financing hurricane rebuilding even as his country Grenada recovers from monster storm Beryl.

Barbados Prime Minister Mia Mottley heads the CARICOM sub-committee on climate change. She’s adamant that regional players continue to speak with one voice even if it calls for repetition.

The committee has already started looking into funds for rebuilding in the case of Grenada Hurricane Beryl. Damage is estimated at $1billion one-third of the island’s GDP.

With the peak of the Atlantic hurricane season approaching, it creates an even greater sense of urgency.

St. Vincent and The Grenadines took an even harder hit. Prime Minister Ralph Gonsalves estimates region damage of around $300 million US dollars.
