NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Last Thursday, dozens of regional artists gathered in New York for the highly anticipated Caribbean Music Awards.

“Yo we use to pray for times like this we use to pray for times like this we use to be home sitting down watching YouTube and watching people we look up to to do the thing and be like yo I would love to be there,” DJ Puffy said.

He was responding to what keeps him going. 

DJ Puffy also shared what influences him.

The event is in its third year and is designed to not only distribute awards to exceptional regional talent but also a celebration of the resilience, contributions and impact persons from the Caribbean and of Caribbean heritage have made around the world.  

The CMAs paid special homage to leaders in the industry such as  cylpso honree Austin “Super Blue” Lyons, elite icon honree Busta Rhymes, Shirleyann Cyril-Mayers for gospel and the humanitarian award the Sizzla Youth Foundation. 

The foundation’s mission is to increase literacy and identify cultural and academic opportunities. 

Sizzla told me that the establishment of the foundation was curated with the essence of community at the forefront.
