NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Lavaria Storr is not your typical 11-year-old. This Lowe Sound Primary School sixth grader is an author.

Her book, A Quilt Called Life, lets readers into the myriad of emotions Lavaria has experienced through major events in her life in recent years.

Her book even has space for journaling for young readers, to reflect on when they’ve experienced similar emotions.

While Lavaria says she has now settled nicely into life in Andros, she tells us there was one big thing missing in her new home. A library!

Since then, the 11-year-old has spearheaded an initiative she calls reading in the park.

And reading in the park is already introducing more children to a love of books.

Lavaria has been busy presenting her book to people like Education Minister, Glenys Hanna-Martin and Commissioner of Police, Clayton Fernander.

If you’re looking for a copy of your own, “A Quilt Called Life” is available on Amazon, and the family hopes to partner with Bahamian bookstores soon.
