NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Early voters lined up to cast their ballots in the advanced poll at the Remnant Tabernacle of Praise Church Thursday, while also showing mix reactions about the voting process.

Excited crowds blocked traffic as supporters from the Free National Movement, Coalition of Independents, Progressive Liberal Party and independent candidate, Karen Butler, lined the busy Carmichael roadway.

Originally, the advanced polls were only for law enforcement officers, but in recent elections, it was expanded to include poll workers, party poll workers, senior citizens, those with special needs, and anyone who may be traveling or scheduled to be in hospital.

Documentation has to be presented to the parliamentary registrar to approve an early voter.

In this instance, a total of 238 voters were approved, out of the 7,926 eligible constituents.

As the media were kept outside of the voting area, we asked a few voters to describe their experiences.

Voter #1

“I think it could do better it’s too slow .”

Voter #2

“It was a long wait, I been here from 7 o clock and I just finish, but it was alright.”

Voter #3

“I thought it would be faster that’s all I can say, I believe it’s faster in general elections and this only a by election.”

However, some other voters claimed the experience wasn’t so bad.

Voter #4

“I think the voting process was going quite smoothly, the parliamentary department has sufficient officers inside.”

Voter #5

“Yeah it was very smooth, lil hesitant at first but it was ok.”

With two major parties, a Coalition of Independents representative, and an independent candidate all on the ballot, we also asked voters what issues were important to them.

Voter #6

“Lights that’s the main factor, and to get more police that is present”

Voter #7

“I need a boat and a jet ski to get out of my house every time it rains, and I am sick and tired of it.”
