NASSAU, BAHAMAS – The general manager of a neighbouring hotel sharing his thoughts on the failed sale of the neighbouring Grand Lucayan Hotel and delayed redevelopment of the Grand Bahama International Airport.

Magnus Alnebeck is the general manager of Grand Bahama’s Pelican Bay Hotel, which sits just across the street from the Grand Lucayan.

You might be wondering why their general manager would be so eager for their competitor to open. Alnebeck says that’s not a concern of his, as Pelican Bay’s target market is commercial and not leisure travelers.

Alnebeck notes that focusing on having a world-class airport will only solve part of the puzzle, especially if there’s nothing to generate the airlift.

Pelican Bay currently has 50 rooms closed for renovation. It’s slated to reopen at the end of the year.

Alnebeck warns, the longer the Grand Lucayan sits, the more difficult sale may be.

He also urges against only looking for the biggest, global-level brands, saying they have let Grand Bahama down in the past.
