TOKYO – It was a valiant effort from Anthonique Strachan in Tokyo, Japan at the 2025 World Athletics Championships, who placed fourth in her 200m semifinal heat.

Her time was 22.48s, which was another season’s best and advanced her to the final set for Friday morning (Bahamas time).

Strachan started off the race strong but seemed to pull up right at the end with a suspected hamstring injury.

She was the only Bahamian competing on day six of competition.

I reached out to the team’s head coach, Tito Moss about Anthonique’s condition and he said at the time that she was undergoing an MRI and no decision had been made on whether she would compete in Friday’s final.

Also competing on Friday would be Rhema Otabor in the women’s  javelin throw group B.

WNBA

It was a royal beatdown as the Phoenix Mercury came into Barclays Center Wednesday night and beat the New York Liberty by 26 points. The final score was 86-60.

Jonquel Jones played for 22 minutes, getting only seven points along with 13 rebounds, one assist and two blocks

The top scorer for the Libs was Sabrina Ionescu with nine points.

Breanna Stewart  played for 20 minutes but she was hampered by a mcl sprain she sustained in the Last three minutes of game one on Sunday.

Leading Phoenix were Satou Sabally and Alyssa Thomas who both had 15 points followed by Kahleah Copper who added another 14.

Phoenix’s head coach is Nate Tibbetts.

But don’t count the Lberty out  just yet as JJ said the season’s not done.

Now game three will be on Friday back in phoenix at 9pm. JJ and the Libs will have to pull out all the stops or else their season will be done.

UB Athletics

The fourth annual University of The Bahamas’ Cross Country Invitational is coming up in two weeks and we caught up with UB’s Athletics Director Kimberley Rolle who shared that they’re hoping for 1,000 participants this year.

And beyond the event, Rolle says the university will continue to shine a spotlight on cross country.

Once again the invitational is scheduled for September 27 at the Queen Elizabeth Sports Complex. Registration is underway.
