NASSAU, BAHAMAS – The Office of the Judiciary is pleased to announce the appointment of Attorney Uel Johnson as Stipendiary and Circuit Magistrate in the Northern Division, effective 31 March 2025.

Mr. Johnson brings to the Bench over three decades of public service experience, having served in senior roles within law enforcement and the legal profession. A retired Superintendent of the Royal Bahamas Police Force, Mr. Johnson’s distinguished career spanned from 1990 to 2019. Following his retirement, he entered private practice as a sole practitioner with Taju Legal Associates, where he specialized in criminal and civil litigation.

From 2022 to 2025, Mr. Johnson served as Chief Counsel in the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, playing a leading role in the prosecution of complex matters before the courts. He has also contributed to legal education, lecturing at the Bahamas Technical and Vocational Institute (BTVI) on the subject of Student Success.

Mr. Johnson holds an Associate’s Degree in Business from the Bahamas Baptist Community College, an LLB (Hons) from the University of the West Indies, and a Legal Education Certificate from the Eugene Dupuch Law School.

The Judiciary welcomes Mr. Johnson’s appointment and extends best wishes as he undertakes this critical role in the administration of justice in the Northern Division.
