UNITED STATES – Deandre Ayton made a productive debut with the Washington Wizards, helping the new-look team open its NBA season with a 128-116 win over the Milwaukee Bucks.
Ayton scored 11 points, grabbed four rebounds and recorded two blocks in just over 15 minutes off the bench. He was efficient around the basket, making five of his six field-goal attempts.
Washington trailed for much of the game before taking control in the fourth quarter. Ayton helped spark the comeback with a dunk that gave the Wizards a 97-96 lead early in the final period, as the team put together a decisive run.
Ayton begins his Washington tenure in a frontcourt that includes starting center Alex Sarr and star big man Anthony Davis. His role off the bench will be to provide interior scoring, rebounding and rim protection while giving the Wizards additional size and experience.
Washington returns to action Friday against the Toronto Raptors.
Golf
Team Bahamas was recognized for its historic success at the Caribbean Four-Ball Championships in Turks and Caicos, with Minister of Youth, Sports and Culture Mario Bowleg joining in the celebration.
The Bahamian team captured the overall title with 88 points, ending Jamaica’s six-year reign as champions.
However, the recognition also provided an opportunity to look ahead, with Bowleg discussing the future of golf in The Bahamas and the need for infrastructure to support the sport’s continued development.
Expanding access to facilities and creating more opportunities for young golfers to develop their skills will be important to building on the team’s regional success and strengthening the country’s golfing future.
Triathlon and Aquathlon
Team Bahamas is in Bermuda and ready to compete at the 2026 CARIFTA Triathlon, Aquathlon and Mixed Relay Championships, taking place at Clearwater Beach this weekend.
The Bahamas Triathlon Association has selected a contingent of young athletes to compete across the triathlon and aquathlon events, with the mixed relay also part of the championship programme.
The male triathlon team includes Max Van Der Reit, Lyall Menzies, Lauchlan Menzies, Sibby Poitier, Malcolm Menzies and Ayden Bain. The female triathletes are Mia Van Der Reit, Ella Brueckner and Sienna Culmer-Mackey.
In the aquathlon, the male team features Max Van Der Reit, Blair Thompson, Lyall Menzies, Aayden Rolle, Lauchlan Menzies, Sibby Poitier, Malcolm Menzies and Ayden Bain. Ella Brueckner and Sienna Culmer-Mackey will represent The Bahamas in the female aquathlon.
Marcos Aballi will lead the team as head coach, assisted by Grant Menzies, with BTA President Lori Roach serving as team manager.
Aballi says the athletes have put in 10 to 12 weeks of preparation and are entering the competition feeling confident, strong and ready, despite having to balance training with their school commitments.
The Bahamas finished fifth at last year’s championships in Trinidad and Tobago, earning four medals — two gold, one silver and one bronze — after placing seventh in 2024.
Bermuda, the host nation this year, topped the medal table in 2025 with nine medals, followed by Barbados with eight and Aruba with seven.
Team Bahamas departed on Wednesday, with competition set to begin on Saturday.
