NASSAU, BAHAMAS – A man who was jailed for 25 years after he admitted to killing his lover’s four-year-old daughter lost a bid to challenge his sentence on appeal.

Darion Smith pled guilty to the November 5, 2021 murder of D’Onya Walker, affectionately known as Bella, in January 2023 after taking a plea deal.

Smith told the Court of Appeal that he was forced to take the deal.

But after reviewing transcripts, Court President Milton Evans told Smith that the agreement was properly executed and that there was no basis for the appeal.

He told Smith that he was “lucky” to get the sentence that he did based on the circumstances of the case.

Bella had multiple fractures about the body caused by blunt force trauma.
