“This milestone event signals a new era for dragon boating in The Bahamas, as the Federation formally introduces the sport to the wider Bahamian community with a vision of national development, international competition, and inclusive participation.”
“The launch celebrates the arrival of eight International Dragon Boat Federation (IDBF) certified standard 20-paddler dragon boats, now based in Nassau. These are the official class of boats used in international competitions, positioning The Bahamas to participate on the global stage.”
The press conference welcomed a distinguished group of dignitaries and partners, including:
• Hon. Mario Bowleg, Minister of Youth, Sports and Culture (Honoured Guest)
• Officials from the Ministry of Tourism and Sports Tourism
• Leadership from Baha Mar
• Members of the Bahamas Olympic Committee

• Formal launch of the Bahamas Dragon Boat Federation
• Accreditation with international governing bodies, including the International Dragon Boat Federation (IDBF) and Pan American Dragon Boat Federation (PADBF)
• Strategic partnerships with government and international stakeholders
• Support from the Chinese Embassy, recognizing the cultural origins of the sport
• Launch of national training programs and the introduction of national coaching leadership
• Plans for local and international competitions, including the long-term vision of hosting major regional events

President of the BDBF, Kay-Kay Tong emphasized the significance of the moment:
