NASSAU, BAHAMAS – The Bahamas will once again become the beach soccer hub of the CONCACAF region next spring.
For the fourth time, the Malcolm Park Beach Soccer Facility will host the CONCACAF Beach Soccer Championships, March 11-16, 2025.
Eight teams in the region will compete for the title and two available slots in the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup Seychelles 2025.
The group stage draw is scheduled for November 26.
Participating teams will include The Bahamas, Costa Rica, el Salvador, Guatemala, Mexico, Panama, Trinidad and Tobago, and the United States.
Two groups of four teams will compete in round-robin play, and the two best teams in each group will advance to the knockout stage.
The knockout stage will feature single elimination semifinals on March 15, followed by a third-place match and a final on Sunday, march 16.
Those two finalists will also qualify for the 2025 FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup in Seychelles.
The Bahamas previously hosted the CONCACAF Beach Soccer Championships in 2013, 2017, and 2023.
The Bahamas also had its best showing last year when they advanced to the third place game but lost 3-2 to el Salvador.
Bodybuilding
Several Bahamians had impressive showings on the bodybuilding stage over the weekend at the Atlantis Resort.
Nine divisions and pro cards were up for grabs the NPC Worldwide Caribbean Grand Prix Bahamas Pro Qualifier.
Among the top local performers – Paul Wilson took first place in the men’s open lightweight division, Stephen Robinson was first in the men’s over 50 division, Edison Durand won the men’s physique, Kalid Ross won the men’s true novice phyque, and Romel Kelly won the men’s physique f class.
Several athletes also won in multiple divisions – Terez Kemp won the women’s wellness over 40, open d class and true novice divisions while Dorcus Cox won the women’s masters and was second in women’s figure c class.
Reginald Delancey was second in the men’s heavyweight, and in the true novce bikini, Ashley Stirrup was third and Vernice Pyfrom finished fourth.
Several local pros also appeared as guest posers including Cara Saunders, Jamiel Hamilton, and Raynor Ferguson.
Basketball
The season continues for Bahamian players abroad in their various leagues throughout Europe.
In Spain’s Feb Primera, Travis Munnings and Fuenlabrada Madrid extended their win streak to five games with a 91-64 win over Zamora.
Munnings finished with six points, six rebounds, and five assists.
Fuenlabrada is second in the standings at 6-1 and in his first year with the club, Munnings is averaging 8.7 points and five rebounds per game.
In the Feb Segunda, Franco Miller Jr. and Garvin Carke continue their successful rookie seasons.
Miller finished with 17 points, six rebounds, and six assists in an 88-74 win over Santfeliuenc.
Clarke had his best offensive game for Godella in their 81-63 loss to Palma BM.
He finished with 17 points, five steals and shot 4-6 from three point range.
In the French Pro B League, Dominick Bridgewater’s Champagne Chalons Club nearly pulled off the upset against top ranked Blois.
He scored eight points but Champagne came up just short 90-89.
Another first year pro playing at a high level – Sammy Hunter in Kosovo.
He finished with 12 points to lead Trepca to a 69-66 win over Ylii and tie for the league lead in the standings at 7-2.
Hunter is averaging 12.4 points and five rebounds per game.
