KANSAS, U.S.A – Denisha Cartwright solidified her status as one of the greatest sprinters in all of NCAA Division II with her series of performances over the weekend at the nationals in Pittsburg, Kansas.
The MSU-Mavericks grad student won her third consecutive indoor national championship title in the 60mh, with her time of 8.04 seconds.
It was just the start of a busy meet for Cartwright earned All-American honours in each of her four races.
She also finished second in the 60 meters in 7.30 seconds and fourth in the 200 meters in 23.63 seconds.
In the 4×400-meter relay, cartwright joined fellow Bahamian Robyn Rolle-Curry to finish fourth with a time of 3:40.64 seconds.
Cartwright is now 14-time indoor all-American and five-time national champion.
Shyrone Kemp also concluded his DII indoor career on the medal podium with two new all-American honors to his resume.
The MSU-Morehead Dragons senior finished third in the triple jump at 15.60 meters.
He also placed fourth in the long jump at 7.50 meters.
Collinique Farrington of the Southwest Baptist University bearcats also earned all-American honours in the 200m.
She finished fifth in 23.78 seconds.
NCAA Basketball
In Division II basketball, Garvin Clarke and Lathaniel Bastian both received postseason awards for their respective programs.
In his first season with the Indiana University of Pennsylvania Hawks, Clarke was named to the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference west first team.
He was the conference leader and ranked 11th nationally with 5.6 assists per game and was the team’s second-leading scorer at 18.1 points per game.
Lathaniel Bastian’s lone season with the University of Texas Permian Basin Falcons produced a second team Lone Star Conference, and all-defensive team selections.
He averaged 12.6 points, a conference-leading 10.4 rebounds and blocked 1.4 shots per game while shooting 56 percent from the field. He led the conference with 14 double doubles.
NBA
A right-hand sprain did little to slow Deandre Ayton’s momentum that he’s established over the last 15 games.
After missing the last five games, Ayton returned to the floor Saturday night and posted several highs to lead the Portland Trailblazers to a 128-118 overtime win over the Toronto Raptors at the Moda Center in Portland, Oregon.
Ayton finished with 30 points on 14-25 shooting, 19 rebounds, two steals and a block.
Over the last 15 games, he’s averaged 19 points and 12 rebounds per game.
B.A.I.S.S. Track and Field
The Big Red Machine faithful are still celebrating their fourth consecutive B.A.I.S.S. Track and Field title and by one of the slimmest margins in recent memory.
SAC totaled 1275.5 points to edge out the queen’s college comets who finished second with 1260 points.
