NASSAU, BAHAMAS – The Bahamas fielded its largest youth team ever sent to the prestigious Tucci Orange Bowl International Youth Regatta.
Hosted at the Coral Reef Yacht club in Miami, Florida, the Bahamian sailors competed in both the ILCA 4 and ILCA 6 classes under the guidance of Coaches Niels and Paul de Souza.
In the ILCA 6 class, Norman Cartwright Jr. and Eliza Denning lead the Bahamian contingent.
Cartwright finished 20th overall with a net score of 130 points. His top finish was a third place in the yellow group in race two.
Denning was 30th overall with a net score of 172 points. Her top finish was ninth place in the yellow group in race three.
Craig Ferguson followed in 38th place with 223 net points, Mary Jac Nash was 49th with 323 net points, Johannes Maritz was 66th with 225 net points, Erik Jensen was just behind in 67th with 232 points, and sienna jones was 82nd with 307 points.
In the ILCA 4 class, Armaan Manwatkar led the Bahamian team, in 20th position with 198 net points.
Emanuel Alexiou was 24th at 220, Patrick Tomlinson 25th at 224, and Nash Cartwright was 43rd at 306 points.
The field included 174 sailors from across the USA, Bermuda, Cayman Islands, Jamaica, Mexico, Canada, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and many others.
NBA
Not the end to 2024 Bahamian players expected in the NBA, but it’s a long season.
Deandre Ayton finished with 12 points, 6 rebounds in his Portland Trailblazers 125-103 loss to the Philadelphia 76ers.
Ayton is averaging 14.7 points and 10.2 rebounds per game and the blazers fell to 11-21.
Buddy Hield continues to struggle off the bench for the Golden State Warriors.
Hield scored just five points in the Warriors’ 113-95 loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers Monday night at the chase center in San Francisco.
After a promising start to the season, the Warriors fell to 16-16 on the year and Hield is averaging 12.6 points per game.
Basketball
Four days of competition came down to championship night, and in the end both division winners were able to repeat as champions at the Providence Storms Holiday Classic.
In senior boys play, the C.I. Gibson Rattlers celebrated on their home floor once again after a 60-52 win over the C.C. Sweeting Cobras in the final.
The junior boys title game was an all-Abaco matchup and the Agape Christian Eagles emerged as champions for the second consecutive year with a 55-43 win over the S.C. Bootle Dolphins.
A total of 29 teams – 10 junior boys and 19 senior boys participated in the event.
Tennis

The Howard University sophomore had a year filled with accolades for the Bison, which included an all mid-eastern athletic conference selection and the team’s newcomer of the year award.
At the national team level, Major also made his Davis Cup debut and recently finished as a runner up in the Girogio Baldacci Open Nationals.
