U.S.A. – Thursday night was an incredible moment for Bahamian baseball – two of the country’s top Minor League prospects shared the field in double-a and put on a hitting display in Texas.

Arizona Diamondbacks prospect Kristian Robinson and his Amarillo Sod Poodles out dueled Texas Rangers prospect Sebastian Walcott and his Frisco Roughriders , 10-7, last night at Hodgetown Stadium in Amarillo, Texas.

Robinson finished 3-4, including a solo home run, with two rbi and two runs scored while Walcott went 3-5 with two rbi.

Walcott struck first when his single in the top of the first inning drove in a pair of baserunners for an early 2-0 Frisco lead.

In the bottom of the second inning, Robinson hit a solo shot to left center to trim the deficit 4-2.

In his second at bat, Walcott was back up in the third inning and roped a doubled to left field.

He returned in the top of the fourth, and doubled for the second time on the night.

The Roughriders dominated the first four innings out to a 6-2 lead, and them momentum shifted in the fifth when the Sod Poodles scored 8 runs over the course of the next four innings.

Robinson  doubled in the fifth on a line drive to left field for his second hit and the Sod Poodles eventually trimmed the deficit by a run in the inning.

In the bottom of the eighth tied at 7, Robinson came through with an RBI double to left field to give Amarillo an 8-7 lead.

In three double a games, walcott is hitting .333.

Robinson has battled injuries for much of the season and hit just .214 with 10 home runs and 39 rbi in a career high 107 games.

WNBA

It wasn’t the traditional offensive night from Jonquel Jones, but she still set yet another career milestone – feels like we’ve been saying that all season long.

Jones became the first player in WNBA history to reach 300 made three-pointers while shooting at least 50 percent from the field.

She finished with eight points, seven rebounds, and four assists to go along with two steals and a block in the Liberty’s 99-67 win over the Dallas Wings Thursday night at the College Park Center in Dallas.

The milestone three came at the 4;22 mark of the third on an assist from Breanna Stewart.

New York improved to 31-6 and will host the Minnesota Lynx on Sunday with a chance to clinch the top overall seed for playoffs.

MLB

The MLB playoff chase is entering the final stretch and there’s still a lot left to be decided over the next few games.

Antoan Richardson and the New York Mets enter Friday’s schedule a full game ahead of the Atlanta Braves for the final National League wild-card spot with just 16 games to go.

The Mets open a series with the Philadelphia Phillies Friday night and their opponents the rest of the way have a winning percentage of .557.

Meanwhile, Jazz Chisholm and the New York Yankees won for the second consecutive night in extra innings.

A 2-1 win over the Boston Red Sox has the Yankees headed into Friday night’s matchup with an 85-62 record and a two-game lead in the American League East over the Baltimore Orioles.
