NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Owning your own home is part of the Bahamian dream, and whether you achieve it through purchasing or building, have you thought about how your home may impact the environment?

Your home may go up brick by brick but no matter how high you build, what’s on the ground is just as important.

Bahamas First Group Operations and Special Projects Manager, Deborah McKinney says new homeowners have a lot to keep in mind when looking to build sustainably, including the types of materials they use.

She says research is key.

Flipping the switch to sustainability can also include looking at alternative energy solutions to not only cut costs, but also consumption.

From the inside of your home to the outside, a review of your landscaping can also be a step toward sustainability.
