UNITED STATES – Texas Democrats returned Monday, ending their walkout that had blocked Republican efforts to redraw congressional maps.

House Minority Leader Gene Wu said Democrats rallied nationwide for fair representation, but Governor Greg Abbott called a second special session to revise the maps, aiming to add five Republican seats, a move supported by former President Trump to help maintain GOP control in upcoming midterms.

Meanwhile, California Governor Gavin Newsom unveiled a redistricting plan to give Democrats five extra seats. Texas Democrats had previously left the state to deny Republicans the quorum needed to pass the redistricting legislation.
