ABACO, BAHAMAS – Residents in North Andros are without power as one of BPL’s power plants went up in smoke this morning in the quiet community of Nicholls Town.

The Our News team was on the ground in Andros.

The scent of smoke and charred metal stone filled the air as reporters drove into what was left of BPL’s power plant in North Andros.

The station suffered a catastrophic fire in the wee hours of Wednesday morning.

Pockets of fire could still be seen burning in some areas as workers and volunteers continue to fight the blaze.

Drone footage of the property also shows the complete scale of the damage as a result of the fire.

BPL Chief Operations Officer Toni Seymour says while the plant is totally destroyed, help is on the way.

North Andros Administrator Beverly Laramore was also on the ground and encouraged residents not to panic.
