NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Charge’ D Affaires Captain Godfrey Rolle and his security detail were the last diplomatic staff to be evacuated from Haiti.

Just a few weeks ago i spoke to Captain Rolle in a telephone interview as conditions in Haiti worsened.

According to the United Nations, tens of thousands of people have fled the Haitian capital, Port-Au-Prince, to escape a surge in gang violence over the past weeks.

Haiti’s Prime Minister Ariel Henry quit last month and the unrest has shown no sign of slowing down.

Captain Rolle says although he has returned from Haiti, he is still committed to work on the ground.

But the journey home did not come without its challenges. The widespread gang violence, forced the nation’s national airport to shut down, complicating their exit.
